revamp '09.
After a handful of entries parroting not-so-breaking fashion news stories, I have decided to take a different direction with this blog. Similar, but not the same as it was. Please check back for a new look, better updates, and a surprise (which may or may not be ice cream sandwiches).

stevezie strikes back.
After yesterday's exciting finds regarding the Meiselmeister and Iselin, I stumbled -- albeit late -- across the news that Olga Sherer is no longer a redhead! Rumour has it, according to models.com, that Stevezie was the mastermind behind the famous mane's recent transformation. The Lanvin SS08 ad shown here is the last time Meisel and Sherer worked together, when our alien star was still very much a redhead.Who knows how long the 5'10" model will remain a brunette? And if she switches again, which colour next? Will she miss her former look? Only time will tell, so place your bets now.

jagermeisel pie!
I'm not sure why things like this touch me so. Steven Meisel was the very first high fashion photographer I had ever heard of. Ever. Back in the early 2000's when Stam was in her (in my opinion) finest form I immediately gravitated towards the dynamic duo. It was a chicken-and-egg effect, I'm not sure who I was more drawn to: the girl in front of the camera, or the man behind it? To this day the jury is still out on that one.
Shortly after expanding my model-conscious horizons I quickly and thoughtlessly fell in love with a smiley Norwegian beanpole. News of her "retirement" a few years later came as a naive surprise and brought a small frown to my face. Having proven herself to be both beautiful and intelligent, as she was ending her modeling career to pursue post secondary academics back home, I felt I had really lost something that I once called mine. In attempts to ease the pain I made a couple of eBay purchases for some Iselin clippings from across the continent so that I could, at the very least, keep her alive in my dorm room forever.
It's no surprise, then, that my weakened heart skipped a few beats upon hearing the news! According to supermodels.nl not only is Iselin ignoring her schooling/retirement for a few days, but she is ignoring such things to work with Stevezie. Talk about a happy dance pour moi! The SS09 campaign season won't get much better, for me at least, than this. And if Lanvin's Paris show in October was any indication, I think we're practically assured three for three: subject, photographer, and style. Fingers crossed and bottom's up!

quote of the day (dee poon).
"While I think that Hong Kong and Chinese style is derivative – people dress off the pages of Vogue, US Weekly, or as they believe or feel Japanese or Korean hipsters would – the designers are clearly developing their own vocabulary. Yet as the community is disparate and as there are many different sources of inspiration, whether or not these designers are all speaking the same language is a question. China is a really big place, with multiple centers of creativity and energy, and it is changing really quickly."-- Dee Poon, Hong Kong fashion buyer/journalist and creator of Dysemevas, a pop-up shop project that will showcase twelve local designers until December 21st. Click the links to find out more.
As a desensitized, ignorant Westerner the article on Dee Poon's latest, home-grown efforts (both on tfs and Style Bubble) were eye-openers on the differences between the fashion climate of different Asian cities. It's comforting to know that there really is a big old world out there, and not just one massive trend sweeping a collection of countries far, far away simply due to proximity. In any city it's important to provide a forum for local talent to showcase their work. If it doesn't start at home, where can it really all begin?
